Andrew, Specifically, packages are music-applet (2.5.0-0ubuntu3) and exaile (0.3.0.1-0ubuntu6). Same music-applet version + exaile (0.2.14-0ubuntu2)) are still happily together in Karmic as they are in Jaunty.
In addition, configuring music-applet exaile plugin to use D-Bus Activation doesn't help.
