... sure, but (please pardon my ignorance) ... HOW ? Though I've heard that there are manual workarounds to this issue, my point is that for the "average user" (is there such a thing? <G> ) the standard "desktop" installation process doesn't work (with the Intel video chipset, 945GM). I appreciate your patience with this because I believe it's a mainstream, rather than rare, issue - for the following reasons. I read, recently, that some huge percentage of PC sales (something like 85%) are, now, notebooks, rather than workstations!!! Many (most?) of these modern PC sales rely upon Intel video chipsets. So, if Linux is to appeal to this vast majority of PC purchasers, the installation had better work ... as expected. Could you please try removing the 'usplash' and 'quiet' options from the kernel boot line? This should produce a more informative boot process and will allow us to better troubleshoot your issue. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: Ubuntu Assignee: (unassigned) => Brian Murray Status: Unconfirmed => Needs Info -- Feisty Fawn Herd 4 won't complete desktop install on Dell E1405 https://launchpad.net/bugs/86423 -- Feisty Fawn Herd 4 won't complete desktop install on Dell E1405 https://launchpad.net/bugs/86423 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
