It turns out that my system frezzes if I start another application (e.g. 
firefox).
And here is what I got from the shell:

The last sentence is a Warning from the window manager and says that the
theme "Clearlooks" couldn't be loaded. It couldn't find a valid file for
the clearlooks theme.
