I can confirm this is also an isse with txt files. Went to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1235732, tried to download text file from http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=124163&d=1249838895 and got the error "/tmp/notify-color-hack.patch.txt could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences."
