First off, this may not be a network manager (NM) issue at all. It may
be related to the graphics code, but I have no idea where to look to
identify it.

I just upgraded my laptop (Lenovo R51,
http://www.charlescurley.com/Lenovo.R51.html for details) from Jaunty to
Karmic. Normally when NM connects and disconnects, it tosses out a black
window with no decorations indicating what's going on: "connecting to
network foo", e.g. However, these are now showing up as red rectangles
with black horizontal and vertical lines in them (see attached screen
capture; the red butte in the background appears normal). This does not
appear to affect the operation of NM.

For the purposes of NM, this is merely obnoxious. But it could have
nasty implications for other applications.

Thanks
