Please be aware that in Jaunty, bootchart would only log until the gnome
login started. In Karmic, bootchart logs until the gnome login starts,
and then keeps logging for an additional 45 seconds.

This was changed to better represent the fact that the operating system
has to keep loading after you login.

As a result of this change, the boot time given in the upper left hand
corner is no longer the correct time it takes to boot your computer. To
find the correct boot time, look at the top of the chart and see when
the hard drive stops loading. That time is your total start time for the
computer.

If you are unable to find a clear point for which the hard drive stops
loading, then you may have to use a stopwatch.

The alternative to all of this is to subtract 45 seconds from the boot
time given in the upper right hand corner. That way you can directly
compare the numbers between Jaunty and Karmic.
