i've had this problem since ubuntu 8.10 in whitch i used the non-free ati drivers, and now i have 9.10 with free drivers and is the same [amd cuad core, ati 58xx dual screen] some times in 8.10 i had some sata problems and the system did not came up ever... force reboot, and the times it did came up i could not watch videos or it would freeze
