I'm afraid I'm just pointing out the elephant in the room here, but my point wasn't about the *-default-settings packages: as it stands now for karmic, it's not possible to install mythbuntu-desktop and xubuntu-desktop alongside each other. I'm fine with whatever your solution will be. Am I to understand that this will not be fixed in karmic?
