Workaround: If you have Intel graphics you should be able to use the "xbacklight" command. Should also work with the open-source nvidia drivers as well. (src: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Halsectomy)
BTW: I too get nothing with kemap -i for the two brightness keys on my Lenovo G530.
