Public bug reported: I had closed the lid of my laptop for maybe 30 minutes. I assume it was already in hibernate mode. On re-opening the lid, I heard disk sounds (as if it were waking up), and a the light on a USB key I had plugged in at the time went on. The screen remained black, though. I waited about 5 minutes and then forced a shutdown/power off.
