I'm experiencing a variation on this problem in Karmic (similar to jase
and Krastanov):

When I booted up this morning, mountall informed me that it was waiting
for /home to mount. I pressed ESC which took me to the recovery
console, and then tried running mountall again. This was the result:

swapon: /dev/disk/by-uuid/aaf5xxxx : swapon failed: Device or resource busy
mountall: swapon /dev/disk/by-uuid/aaf5xxxx [995] terminated with status 255
mountall: Problem activating swap: /dev/disk/by-uuid/aaf5xxxx

(uuids truncated to save space)

Note that I have no encrypted partitions or LVM, and my system refuses
to continue beyond this point. On the off-chance that it might help, I
also tried removing 'splash' from the kernel line in GRUB, but with no
apparent effect.
