My hard disk failed suddenly and I had to do a clean, new install of Karmic RC-1. The sound works perfectly -- device is shown, I can change between digital and analog output.
I am not able to duplicate my sound problems with the RC-1 upgrade. Thank you for your help. I am so happy that the ALSA sound was improved over previous versions.
