Confirming on karmic RC. Happened after a reboot to me too.
Even though Denmark was selected in gnome-keyboard-properties, entering
text in the text field revealed that the layout was indeed American. To
fix, I had to remove the Denmark layout, add it again AND move it to the
top of the list by drag and dropping.
