No, the issue is with gl_read_pixels inside of mesa. The only way around it is to change the entire input scheme in clutter (which they have honestly considered). I don't think there is anything we can do about this one, the drivers have to implement gl_read_pixels properly.
On side note, this is *most* common on systems with L shaped memory (e.g. a 1GB and a 2GB memory module). Users may experience better results with rectangular memory. I believe the behavior of gl_read_pixels on the intel drivers with L shaped memory is still "undefined" aka "broken" but my information is about a month old.
