In its current incarnation, there will be a linear lag at startup, depending on the number of bookmarks stored in Firefox. At startup, we iterate over all the local bookmarks and push them to CouchDB if they're not already present. This is a known limitation, but isn't going to land before Karmic. We'll be pushing updates to our PPA in the meanwhile between Karmic and Lucid releases, so please stay tuned if Bindwood is something you plan on using.
