This has been a problem with the last few herd Live CDs for Fiesty. I've
been running Ubuntu on my desktop for the past 3 years with no hardware
problems like this.
I believe the problem is with the kernel drivers for the cdrom.
All during boot there are long timeout errors for the dma on /dev/hde.
I'm not sure what drive that is. On my regular ubuntu system, /dev/hda
is the hard drive and /dev/hdb is the cdrom.
I am not sure what information I can report that would give more
information. The cdrom takes about 8 minutes to get the desktop up.
Launching any programs from the menus seems to lock it up for an
undetermined amount of time.
I am willing to report back whatever information will help. Current
system is 6.10 Edge Eft. Can probably do some single mode user booting
from the live cd to get some info on that too.
