I was about to file an identical bug report. I tried doing a clean installation of both Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper and Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy (also tried upgrading the kernel several times). The result is exactly the same. Right after the initial installation, there is no sound. Then I also tried going through the Comprehensive Sound Problem Solution Guide (available at http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Comprehensive_Sound_Problems_Solutions_Guide) to no avail. During the whole process - I tried both modprobe or a new kernel compilation, I saw no error. Everything went smoothly but no sound came afterwards. What is the problem here? I am really confused.
