Seems that no matter where you put them, you will be hiding content. Keeping them in a single location does enhance predictability for a casual audience.
MacSlow's code works tremendously well at quickly hiding the bubbles via pass through. As it stands now, it is a rather unfortunate decision that adversely affects the composition of the desktop.
