No USB issue here (U100) - just flashing brightness. I added (on Ubuntu) the "brightness applet" to my panel, and with it, I can adjust the LCD brightness with no flashing at all. Also, if you use the function keys and it starts that whole blinking thing, if you then adjust the brightness with the brightness applet on the panel, the blinking stops.
