Sorry for all of these comments!

For some reason, after a few updates and a bit of messing around with
usplash.conf, I have it running at 1024x768 without being all stretched.
Don't get me wrong, it is still blurred because it isn't the native
resolution. Still, it is half decent now.

The actual problem of not being able to set 1440x900 (which is the
native rez of my monitor and set in usplash.conf when I installed
Ubuntu) is still not resolved. This bug report isn't getting a lot of
action; I'd post a fresh bug report, but it would only be a duplicate of
this ancient one.

I'll keep an eye on this bug report, but I don't want to force the
issue;)
