I have this exact problem on ubuntu 9.04, firefox 3.0.14 I believe it started to appear under these conditions: go to firefox about:config and set browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll to true then whenever the system wakes from sleep with an open firefox window, the address bar shows these symptoms. Though for me its not the new window but the existing one (text typed on the address bar gets auto-selected as I type) the problem goes away on closing and opening a new firefox window.
