Same here, with the Karmic Beta AND Karmic RC. Running a Compaq desktop, not a notebook. Tried different options, graphic safe, noacpi, nolapic, acpi=off. Same result for LiveCD and for Install Ubuntu directly. Also created a USB installation with Jaunty, same result after booting this USB.
