Okay, that's a bit elliptic. I helped Martin debug a problem with his Quickcam Messenger:
He installed the kernel module following the instructions on this page: http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/quickcam And got the quickcam working well. Then he installed a system upgrade (presumably the kernel upgrade to 2.6.17-11). After the upgrade, he needed to run the quickcam.sh script after each reboot to create the /dev/video* devices. Using the (previously installed) 2.6.17-11 kernel, the quickam module was loaded without problem. Observed behaviour: after upgrading to the 2.6.17-11 kernel, running camorama from camorama-0.18ubuntu1 produces the following error message "could not connect to video device (/dev/video0) please check connection". Then running the quickcam.sh script from http://home.mag.cx/messenger/source/qc-usb-messenger-1.6.tar.gz created the /dev/video* devices and allowed camorama to run successfully. Expected behaviour: installing a new kernel as proposed by the automatic upgrade applet should not cause previously working device to regress. -- quickcam with kernel 2.6.17-11 https://launchpad.net/bugs/85935 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
