Okay, merged into bzr trunk.

I think this is about as good as it's going to get for Karmic.  xsplash
startup is really tight on resources as it is, which you probably notice
even in a more typical setup by how the throbber is not completely
smooth.  Getting a resize event and having to scale the image again is
most likely going to stress it out further and cause it to not respond
for a moment.
