I installed the Karmic beta (amd64) and was able to reproduce the reported problem. My wife confirmed that it did not show up with the correct indentation in Microsoft Word.
To reproduce: 1. Start OpenOffice Writer 2. Type a few lines of text 3. Press Ctrl+A to select all text 4. Click the Format menu, then select Paragraph 5. Check the "Automatic" option for indentation 6. Close the dialog. Note that the selected text is now indented. 7.
