Thanks for the reply Felix, it doesn't help me but at least I understand some of the reasoning behind this. I guess karmic gets a thumbs down from me based on this regression alone. At lot of people installing Karmic for the first time, are going to get the hump when there install fails at the last hurdle. I wonder if the possibility of using grub1 can be included in the installer.
