Here is the "clean" version:
Here are the answers to your questions. Kernel 2.6.17-11- generic: Adept says: linux-restricted-modules-generic Not installed linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17-11-generic Not installed Command line: sudo modprobe ath_pci FATAL: Module ath_pci not found. Konqueror /lib/modules/2.6.17-11-generic no 'madwifi' sub-directory. Kernel 2.6.17-10-generic Adept says: linux-restricted-modules-generic Not installed linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17-11-generic Not installed Command line: sudo modprobe ath_pci No output. /lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic 'madwifi' sub-directory does exist. I want to re-iterate two points: 1. I can boot up either one of the two kernel versions into the same partition. The only difference I see is the existence of the 'madwifi' directory in the older kernel version. Why 'madwifi' shows in one and not the other when both version draw on the same file system is beyond my understanding. 2. The problems I am experiencing right now are a consequence of a routine update prompted and executed by Adept Package Manager. Right now, I am prompted by Adept to update again. I will not do so until I am certain that my working 2.6.17-10-generic installation is not damaged by the new update.
