** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: compiz

  Running Ubuntu version 8.10 AMD64.

  compiz version: 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1

  What I expected to happen:
  To find no graphical glitches.

  What happened instead:
Certain GUI items (mainly menus, sometimes the bottom few millimetres of a
window, occasionally gtk buttons but not certain about that), don't display
correctly and instead display 'corrupt' textures, for example bits of icons,
black lines etc. appear at certain places. If I drag a window over the 'bad'
element, it fixes itself. If i get bad textures in a menu, reopening the menu 1
or 2 times will fix it.

None of this happens when running metacity, either with a compositing
manager or without. It seems to only happen with compiz, although I
haven't checked any other window managers. The fact that it stops if I
switch to a different window manager does lead me to believe, however,
that it is an issue related to a window manager if not in particular
compiz itself. Also - this problem doesn't seem to happen on the root
account whether I'm running compiz or not. So could it be a
  configuration issue?

  My hardware:
Video card: nVidia Geforce FX5200 PCI. I will upgrade this to a PCI express
9600 GT next month, so if it stops then it's something to do with the video
card.
  Chipset: nVidia nForce 520LE
  CPU: AMD Athlon X2 6000+

I've installed all updates as of Thursday 8 January.
