Public bug reported:

Last night my wife and I were using Karmic on my Asus eee PC 1000HE. We
were both logged in.

Just before we went to bed I selected "Shut Down" in my account and
closed the netbook lid.

The next morning I found my Asus still running and it was really hot.

I found out that it was stuck on the "System policy prevents stopping
the system when other users are logged in" dialog box which I did not
see when I closed the lid. Also the fans were going like crazy so
obviously Karmic was stuck in a limbo state where power settings are not
being applied.

I think this is potentially dangerous. It is a reflex of mine to press
"shutdown" and close the lid. I've done this multiple times. One day I'm
going to click shutdown, close the lid and stuff the netbook in my bag
only to find it the next day overheating.

This is why I think this is a bug:

1. In previous versions of Ubuntu (and in Linux Mint) you had the
ability to "remember" the "always allow" policy for shutdown. This is
somehow removed in Karmic. There seems to be no option for permanently
setting this policy.

2. The power settings should definitely still be active when this dialog
box is shown. The laptop fans should not be running at full speed at
that point. That's why I think it's dangerous and could potentially
damage laptops.

Thanks,

Y
