Oops, I did not get this quite right the first time. This bug is
strongly related to bug 435958 but is not quite a duplicate of that bug.
Bug 435958 is about acer models and this has been fixed. It has not yet
been fixed for gateway and packard bell models. I will therefore make
this a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/446111.
