Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-applets
Currently, gnome-keyboard-applet indicates the selected keyboard layout, not language that layout belongs to. For example, when entering English using USA keyboard layout is shows "USA". 1. This might be confusing for people using USA layout for entering English in another countries. 2. When switching between two input languages, more important information is not layout, but the language itself. 3. This is not consistent with what Windows shows. So, there should be an option for making gnome-keyboard-applet display not the layout name, but the language name (abbreviated if needed).
