Thank you for reporting this bug. I am unsure, though, if this is a 'ls'
issue, or rather a terminal colouring issue.

>From your image, we can see that space was reserved for the characters
(visible on the reversed field). I would like you to open a terminal
with standard colouring and try another 'ls -a' there. Also, please go
to one of the TTYs (Ctrl/Alt/F[1-6] should put you there), login and try
another 'ls -a'.

I do not run Jaunty anymore, but I *did* run it for about half an year
(until Karmic development began); it happens that I am a heavy command-
line user, and I did not notice this issue, ever.
