Ok, my problem was solved by ignoring timidity, fluisynth and jack (which isn't needed for the MIDI playing).
I just needed to install the asfxload utility and find a Sound Font so I could initialize my sound card midi sound table (without it it would not play a midi sound). After that there is no need for timidity or fluidsynth (which only does software midi) and the soundcard does the rest (without any need for CPU stress). I have a Sound Blaster Audigy, but I can guess it's the some for other cards. Shouldn't Ubuntu recognize this and already have a Sound Font file available for it's users? And also an initscript to do this on bootup? After all it seems to me MIDI playing is a much more common than Bluetooth support (which I don't have in any of 5 PC's with ubuntu installed). -- Rosegarden does not start successfully by default in Dapper. https://launchpad.net/bugs/36801 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
