I was trying to install ubuntu 6.10 from a disc my friend gave me.

1. tried to manually select partitions, kept saying the root was not assigned
to a partition.
2. tried that once more and after it rebooted , but still , the boot was not
assigned,
3. then tried to use default command to select largest free memory space.
4. had to go to sleep and woke up to the error message the the installer
crashed.
5. my friend had the same problem with the disk, so we figured it was a bum
disk.
