Hi Christiansen, Thanks for all the testing and the feedback, especially against Karmic. I'd be curious if you'd be willing to try installing linux-backports- modules-karmic to see it if helps at all? The reason I ask is that linux-backports-modules-karmic contains a much newer compat-wireless stack which may included some ath5k/9k related fixes. Please let us know your results if you test.
