I have the same problem on a Thinkpad T61 (nvidia driver & intel sound card). It appears irregularly during bootup. It can be very distressing when you boot your laptop in a public place, e.g. a train. I noticed that the problem seemed to be fixed with the 2.6.28-14 kernel, and has reappeared with the update to 2.6.28-15.
