This Acer 3050 laptop was silent when using the live desktop CD of 9.04 until I realised that I had to go into alsamixer, move to the "Surround" column, unmute it and turn its volume up. Quite why it should need this...? lcpci says: 00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB4x0 High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01) and it's using kernel module snd_hda_intel
