I'm sorry, we can't support CrunchBang here, as we don't know what other
changes they may have made. Please contact its developers with your
report; they can then come back to us if it really does turn out to be a
ubiquity bug.

For what it's worth, the relevant error message in all of this appears
to be:

Aug 19 17:07:00 crunchbang user-setup: Stopped: symlink: Permission
denied

... which means that you're trying to install Ubuntu on a non-POSIX
filesystem that doesn't support symlinks, which isn't a configuration we
support in Ubuntu and indeed one which our installer should warn you
about.
