Updated information:
When booting a fully updated 2.6.31-10-generic kernel, a message saying
"udevadm trigger is not permitted while udev is unconfigured". And the screen
sits there doing nothing. After a minute, initramfs gives up trying to find a
root system and gives an initramfs shell (ash). I have heard success in booting
the kernel by passing noacpic and acpi=off to the kernel, but I have confirmed
failure on my machine.
