Public bug reported: I don't know which package causes this, maybe usplash, upstart or whatever. Since some days, uplash is shown correctly (colorfull) on AMD64. However gdm does not start: after usplash is shown, and progress bar reaches the right position, screen turns into black and nothing happens (my monitor reports resolution of 720x400). I can't change terminals with ALT-Fx keys. However, if I trigger SAK (alt-sysreq-K) gdm starts and everything works, though on system shutdown, system drops me a shell instead of power off (is it caused by SAK?). So I think there is someting which hangs on boot but I don't know what, because there is no picture on screen.
