Hi, I'mactually having similar problem - trying to mound snow leopard hybrid iso and receiving same error. I'm sure I'm supplying a proper offset (http://www.64lines.com/mounting-hfs-plus).
Probably next thing would be to look at hfstools (hfsprogs?) sources.
