Public bug reported:

After connecting to the network from command line, the network manager in KDE
doesn't show the wired network as "not managed" as before. But instead shows
that no wired network exists, because of which pidgin keeps waiting for the
connection without connecting.
There is one workaround - To just connect to auto eth0, (irrespective of
whether I use authentication for the wired network or not) and everything works
fine.

** Affects: pidgin (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
