The one currently in karmic -- apparently this one, builds empty lib and 
lib-dev versions, and mpich2 itself lacks all libraries. 
It's pretty much useless for anything but running hostname on 20 machines.
The version that apparently is wending it's way through debian is the same -- I 
guess it's based on this one.

The version produced by the mpich guys themselves is fine -- it lacks
the roccocco debian policy style guideline package splitoffs, but it's
of actual use. Maybe someone should grab that one, and add empty lib,
lib-dev and doc sections that can be filled in later?
