Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools
In Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.3 LTS, go to System > Administration > Users & Groups. Click Unlock, make sure Administrator-level user is selected, and enter that user's password. Click Add User. Add a new user with the Profile: Desktop User, and set a password manually. Click OK and then click Close. Try to sign on as the new user (via the Fast User Switcher Applet, after System > Quit > Log Out or even after System > Quit > Restart, the result is the same). You get the message "User Added" and GNOME seems to start to load. You see the top and bottom GNOME panels briefly, then just a blank white screen with a mouse pointer (that does move) but nothing else. The full GNOME desktop never loads. Num Lock key on keyboard seems to work, at least light goes on/off. Pressing special keys on Microsoft Internet Keyboard (like Mail or Web/Home) seem to do something (hard disk active for a second or two) but then still nothing happens. Have to to Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to kill GNOME session and return to Log In screen. This did not used to happen -- I had added two such Desktop Users (plus a second Administrator User) without any problems. This ia a family computer, and I need to be able to add new family members. Thanks in advance for looking into it. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: freeze gnome users -- Users & Groups - New Desktop Users Get Just White Screen With Mouse Pointer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432743 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
