I have a similar problem with Xsane 0.991 inside Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy, but on the xubuntu-desktop (with the GNOME support loaded at startup).
Xsane starts with the little scanner-search popup, which then goes away, and I'm left with a blank screen for over a minute until it finally starts. Once started Xsane runs incredibly slow and pops up I/O error boxes when I try to preview a scan. Once Xsane is running, I can make it responsive by unplugging the scanner. No scanner, but at least then I can abort the stalled scan/preview and close it. HP Pavilion 6545C, Celeron 'coppermine' 500MHz, 256MB RAM USB 1.0 ports Ubuntu 6.10 with xubuntu-desktop installed and gnome-desktop removed. GNOME libraries loaded at startup. Custom 2.6.18.1 kernel build Xsane worked great under the native GNOME desktop before I switched to Xubuntu. -- xsane does not start https://launchpad.net/bugs/47174 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
