Public bug reported:
lsb_release -rd: Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch) Release: 9.10 My system doesn`t boot to KDE4 login screen this morning. I remember I`ve installed some updates yesterday and will include the dpkg log. Starting from today I can`t use nvidia-glx (tried both 185 and 173), because X crashes on Xserver start and leave me with blank screen and blinking cursor. I can`t even jump to consoles, because of the system hang. Vesa driver works ok. NV driver starts working if I remove (purge) the nvidia-glx and nvidia-185-kernel-source, otherwise it crash after login and sets me back to login screen (looks like trying to use libGL with it). Not sure, what package to blame: I`ve downgraded the Xorg to xserver-common_2%3a1.6.3-1ubuntu5_all.deb xserver-xorg-core_2%3a1.6.3-1ubuntu5_i386.deb instead of xserver-common_2%3a1.6.3-1ubuntu6_all.deb xserver-xorg-core_2%3a1.6.3-1ubuntu6_i386.deb and no effect. Used this driver packages nvidia-173-kernel-source_173.14.20-0ubuntu1_i386.deb nvidia-173-modaliases_173.14.20-0ubuntu1_i386.deb nvidia-185-kernel-source_185.18.36-0ubuntu2_i386.deb nvidia-185-libvdpau_185.18.36-0ubuntu2_i386.deb nvidia-96-modaliases_96.43.13-0ubuntu2_i386.deb nvidia-glx-173_173.14.20-0ubuntu1_i386.deb nvidia-glx-185_185.18.36-0ubuntu2_i386.deb nvidia-settings_180.25-0ubuntu1_i386.deb In kernel log you can see various tries to launch - with nvidia 185, nv, 173, vesa... I believe that segfault involving libc happening when using nvidia binary driver but not sure. Can downgrading libc help me?
