I managed to start gnome components manually from an xterm (gnome- session, gnome-panel, metacity, nautilus) so it seems it works this way (just gnome-session is not enough, maybe it stucks somewhere and that's the reason it does not work?), but nautilus segfaults every time (but maybe it's another bug).
