I just verified that this error condition does not manifest itself on my laptop, which is running a ubuntu-edgy installation (non-amd64).
Both my amd64 desktop and my 32-bit laptop are running the same version of OpenOffice.org 2.0.4-0ubuntu4. I also verified that a friend who is also running ubuntu-edgy-amd64 is seeing similar problems with the OpenOffice.org bibliography database.
