Upgrade the BIOS firmware. >From F02 release notes: "Fixes an issue that occurs on notebooks running a >Linux operating system that are using battery power (DC power) with a LAN >cable plugged in, where the wired network controller (NIC) is not recognized >by the system when the notebook is booted". After upgrading my HP 2140 to F03 (F04 seems to be MS Windows only) the problem disappeared. This bug seems to be related to #297263.
