In support of Loic's point, the design goal of UNR is specifically to encourage full-screen use of the set of apps that work well on UNR, so Maximus is absolutely part of the preferred UNR experience.
Experts, as Loic describes, have the option of customizing UNR to their liking. I would encourage you to think of the default experience as something that your aunt might like, vs the expert approach you might like yourself.
